The AGNC committee is delighted to advertise the first Advanced Counselling Skills course for our membership. Our CPD survey in 2025 identified the need for opportunities to develop counselling and reflective skills for colleagues with established clinical practice. We recognise the difficulty of accessing CPD which is specific to the unique skills of genetic counsellors, at a reasonable cost and suitable level.

This will be a two-day, in-person course on Monday 29th and Tuesday 30th June 2026, for 21 delegates. We have a brilliant line up of confirmed speakers:

  • • Dr Sarah Gunn: Acceptance and commitment therapy
    • Alan Philips: Time-sensitive decision counselling
    • Mariangels Ferrer-Duch: Honouring the supervision space
    • Juliette Harris: Coaching mindset for genetic counsellors
    • Charlotte Dubras: Transactional analysis and compassion-focused therapy skills
    • Dr Alistair Duff: Motivational interviewing

Each session will allow delegates to learn from theory and the apply this to practice, so be prepared for role plays, case studies and reflective discussion!

Entry to the course will be through application, to ensure an appropriate balance of skillsets and experiences in the group, as we are hopeful this will be a popular option.

The cost of the course will be £250 for the two days, including lunch and tea/coffee. It will be held at Lumen Rooms, 88 Tavistock Place, London, WC1H 9RS. Please remember that AGNC Travel Awards are available for help with costs.

Because of limited availability, we are offering this to AGNC members only. There are no non-membership spaces and we encourage people to join our membership if they are interested in our CPD opportunities. We are really looking forward to seeing some of you there. We are hopeful that we will be able to offer this course on more frequent occasions, and locations, in the future.

If you would like to submit an application for this course, please complete the application form that was emailed out to AGNC members and return to us by Friday 10th April 2026 at agnccommittee@gmail.com. We aim to inform applicants of the outcome by email within 2 weeks of the closing date.

With best wishes,
Alice Coulson and Andrew Pestaille, on behalf of the AGNC committee
