The Department of Medical Genetics is looking to appoint a Research Nurse (Genetic Counsellor) to join the cancer genetics research team led by Professor Marc Tischkowitz. The post-holder will have primary responsibility for the day-to-day running of a new CRUK funded study to assess the feasibility and acceptability of using Polygenic Risk Scores in predictive genetic testing for risk stratification (and early cancer detection) in hereditary breast and ovarian cancer. This is a multisite study led from Cambridge with key collaborators in Manchester (UK), Southampton (UK) and Stanford (US). The successful applicant will be responsible for the setting up and day to day running of the study. They will work with clinicians and health professionals to help recruit patients to the study, coordinate the PRS testing, counsel participants regarding their risk and liaise with genetics services. They will have oversight for the study in the collaborative centres. Prior experience in cancer genetics would be an advantage. Previous experience of research /clinical studies is highly desirable. Excellent communication and organisational skills are essential as the successful applicant will be expected to liaise with a number of healthcare professionals locally, nationally and internationally. Given the time zones involved it may be necessary to sometimes attend meetings outside of normal working hours (evenings).
