How to Join

  • Please read the criteria for membership
  • Please apply online to be considered for membership.
  • Please supply the names and email addresses of two referees, at least one of whom is a member of BSGM or, if you are also applying for membership of a constituent group, a member of that constituent group. The BSGM will seek references from the referees.
  • Applications will be reviewed by the secretary of the relevant constituent group (or by the secretary of BSGM if you are not seeking membership of a constituent group). The secretary will assess the CV of applicant using the eligibility criteria and review the references from the proposer and seconder.
  • If you don't have two referees, you may still be eligible for membership.  The Secretary of the relevant Constituent Group (or the Secretary of BSGM if you are not seeking membership of a constituent group) may accept an application for approval based on the CV alone, if the CV fulfils criteria 1 or 2 above. Please note that the absence of references will delay the application.
  • Applications are then considered for approval by the BSGM executive, or the council/executive of the constituent group (if you applied to join a constituent group).

The first year's subscription must be paid by credit card at the time of online application.  If the Executive Committee feels that a person applying for membership does not meet the criteria, membership fees paid will be refunded.

Note: Members of the British Society for Genetic Medicine can claim a tax deduction on their annual subscription. This is approved by the Inland Revenue under Section 344 ITEPA 2003.
